I’ve found so many neat things lately that I decided to post them all in one big chunk. I don’t remember the origins of each, but many were found through www.engadget.com and Brass Goggles.
Kinetic wooden sculptures
Many of these have intricate moving parts that create interference patters.
Bug art
One of my favorite forms of art is the elegant display of functionality - the exposed stainless ductwork in the mechanical engineering building at the U of M is an exellent example. That’s part of why I like the wood sculptures above so much. The gears in these bugs certainly aren’t functional, but they capture the same spirit of getting to see something’s inner workings.
