I think I need a vacation

Update: I added two lines at the end
Free to dream in the wet grass
under the moon and her twinkling stars.
While the earthlings toil in pursuit of their caged dreams
keeping their eyes on their shoes.
And the mockingbird sings at their deaf ears
tears welling in its eyes.
But the puppet master grins with spite for them all
and shoes the little bird away.
And so it returns to the grass by my side
under the moon and her twinkling stars.
That sort of came out spontaneously while I was IMing with a friend…
me: Someone needs to let me out of this cage
Hayley: <lets Jacob out of the cage>
YOU’RE FREE!!!!
fly away little bird, just.. fly away
and then I wrote it. The first poetry I’ve ever written that wasn’t forced out of me by an educational institution.
Hayley is my muse
