Panorama Rig for Aerial Kite Photography

I thought I’d share some plans I’m working on for an aerial kite photography rig. It holds a camera and rotates it through 360

High dynamic range panorama from lake michigan

I took these shots on a camping trip with Ben the summer before last. At the time I didn’t have the right tools to do this photo justice, especially for the high dynamic range part. I came across the photos a couple days ago and managed to put them together into a high dynamic range panorama. They were taken at a camp ground on the north shore of Lake Michigan with a tripod about 50 feet out from the beach. Go to my photo gallery to view a full resolution version.

Spud Cannon Mk II Plans

I started working on - or rather finally picked up again - my plans for spudcannon mark II. So far there’s a general-get-the-basic-idea drawing in Illustrator, plus cut paths for some plastic pieces that I’ll put together into metal casting forms. I’ve been doing some aluminum casting with a friend and trying to think of something to cast, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The cast pieces are a top for the fork that the cannon rests on and two horizontal plates that allow the fork to rotate.

Time fountain construction

A while ago I saw this in a story on engadget. I ordered parts from the guy who built the one in the story and put together my own a few days ago. Here’s the more detailed writeup that he put together.

And now some construction pictures..

Vegetable destruction

A friend of mine made a video of a potato gun we made several years ago. It’s set to the 1812 Overture.

You can find out more about the cannon here: www.jacoblarson.org/spudcannon
